lat. papilio

papilio = latin for butterfly

the development from a caterpillar to a butterfly is one of the most impressive metamorphoses in nature. This process and it’s analogy to human development has inspired us to use the symbol in our work.

The butterfly effect was first described by Edward Lorenz in the early 60s in his attempt to capture chaotic meteorological processes in a mathematical model. His formula became famous, as well as what we now call the butterfly effect, nicely captured in the title of one of his lectures delivered in 1972:

"Does the Flap of a Butterfly’s Wings in Brazil set off a Tornado in Texas?"

What intrigued us is the leverage between relatively small but precise actions leading to a great effect.
